  1. Download this template (it’s a printable PDF, link opens in new window)
  2. Make sure your printer has plenty of ink so the helmet comes out looking uniform in color
  3. You’ll need 4 sheets of paper- the best kind to use is what you would use to print out business cards, but any paper will do
  4. Once you have the printing done, allow it to dry so it doesn’t smudge while you’re working on it
  5. When dry, cut out each piece as marked and the eye holes and fold as shown
  6. Tape the ends together as shown- if you used regular paper, this is where the strength of the helmet will come from- if you used heavier stock paper, it will be even stronger!
  7. Use double sided tape or just make a loop with regular scotch tape and attach the chest piece to your shirt
  8. Fight crime!

Want to make yours even cooler? Here’s how to make an Iron Man helmet that stands out from the rest

For this, you can save a lot of printer ink by printing the mask out in black and white or “grayscale”.  Learn more about printing in grayscale here.

Cut the helmet out as described above and assemble with tape- don’t worry about the tape showing, this will be covered anyway in the next step.

At this point, you can change the look of the printed helmet to be more like the movie version or whatever you prefer.

How To Make An Iron Man Helmet From Papier MacheThe idea here is to learn how to make an Iron Man helmet which is more durable and custom looking helmet, and we’ll accomplish that with the careful application of papier mache.

Making papier mache is fun and easy- read more about it at this website.

When working with this material, be sure to use sparingly and allow it to dry in layers.  Apply slowly to make a very smooth texture.

Once dry, you’ll see that there is a lot more strength to the mask.

You can skip sanding if you’re new to this, but lightly and gently sanding the piece will allow for a smoother texture and a better finished product.

Once dry and sanded, you can paint your new Iron Man helmet any color you choose!
