“A 20-year old florist has 3D printed an entire Iron Man suit using a standard 3D printer bought from Maplins.
Ross Wilkes from the West Midlands paid £600 for the printer last year, and set about creating the suit over the course of 14 months.
The Iron Man model stands at over six feet tall, and was created by piecing together more than 600 individually printed components. Each piece is a maximum of 20 x 20 x 20cm, and takes an average of 30 minutes to print.
Mr Wilkes said he has already started working on a 3D printed Captain America shield in a bid to bring the entire cast of the Avengers to his hometown of Halesowen.
“I’ve loved making the Iron Man suit, it’s taken a while but it’s been worth it,” he said. “I’ve already started working on a 3D printed version of Captain America’s shield – soon Halesowen will have its own full set of Avengers!
“3D printers are still fairly new and lots of people don’t know they exist. Although it seems pretty high-tech, these machines are actually really easy to use and will become much more popular in the next couple of years.””
