Here’s a really cool story about a good guy doing good š
“Real life superheroes donāt wear super suits or zip around on customised motorbikes – unless you’re Pedro Machado.
Pedro has visited 24 hospitals in 16 days and spent thousands of pounds creating superhero costumes just to bring a smile to sick childrenās faces.
Inspired by Baltimore Batman , Pedro decided to take on his legacy after his death, visiting children in hospital all over the world dressed as Captain America and Iron Man – a suit costing him Ā£2400.
Raising money through crowdfunding, Pedro is continuing the work of the US millionaire Lenny B Robinson who donned the Batsuit to visit kids in hospitals in Maryland.
āIt all started last August, August 16 when Baltimore Batman passed away,ā Pedro explained.
āHe was hit and killed by a car and I decided to become Captain America out of respect, and to try and help kids and carry on the legacy, helping children.ā
Baltimore Batman Lenny B Robinson died in a car accident in August 2015 after his ācustom madeā vehicle stalled from engine failure.
He was hit while checking on his car.
Pedro was so moved by Lennyās work and death that he bought a Captain America suit.
āI got the Captain America suit the shield and then Iron Man. I do anything I can for the kids,ā the dancer said.
āI’m a three time world champion dancer, so I want to use as much of myself to give back.ā
Since launching the Superheroes4kids campaign in October 2015, Pedro has continued his work visiting 24 hospitals in 16 days dressed as the Marvel heroes.
āI went to 24 hospitals in 16 days in December from Inverness to Aberdeen, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Kent, two days at Great Ormond Street in London,ā he added.
His quest has also taken him to Malaysia, Spain and Singapore – and most recently, London Comic Con over the Bank Holiday weekend.
The 45-year-old has spent thousands on his outfits, first Captain America and then Iron Man, purely driven by his mission to bring a smile to sick childrenās faces.
Pedro doesnāt take any of the proceeds from his fundraising, but is still raising funds in the hope he can set up more superhero treats, such as his own Batcave for children to visit.
Heās hoping to make a Hulk costume next, and transform a teddy bear he travels with into a dancing one.
The dancing champion grew up in Maryland but moved to England in 2001.
He lives in Leeds with his wife and little daughter.
