“It appears superheroes are starting to come out of the closet these days. After Batman was spotted driving a Batpod on a Japanese highway late last month, it is now Iron Man’s turn to make a public appearance.
The footage below shows the superhero casually taking his sportscar though central London. Despite the British city being one of Europe’s supercar capitals and keeping its inhabitants busy with such machines all the time, it appears there’s still enough public attention left.
Quite a lot of Londoners, as well as tourists notice the R8, with reactions being of the most various sort. Actually, this was the purpose of the feat – this Audi belongs to a supercar spotter who pulled this trick in order to capture people’s reactions on camera.
The guy, who is said to have acquired the sportscar with Youtube money, went through a bit of a hassle for this – the R8 didn’t wrap itself and, last time we checked, Iron Man costumes weren’t available in any local store.
As for the R8, this is a V8 Coupe with a manual, pretty close to the one Tony Stark drove in the first movie of the series – the only difference lies in the gearbox, as the Hollywood-featured R8 used Audi’s R-Tronic automated manual transmission. We’ll remind you the following movies saw the hero move on to an R8 V10 Spyder and an R8 e-tron. Subsequently, Stark switched camps, going for an Acura NSX Convertible, a prototype.
The spotter, who runs the Supercars of London Youtube channel, said he got the idea after seeing Batman driving a Lamborghini. You’d better pay attention then, Wonder Woman could be just around the corner. We’d like to see her in a Porsche…”
