An interesting article at Comic Book Movie has some cool videos showing pre visualization sequences for The Avengers. 
They’ve included some videos that show interactions between Tony and Loki as well as a good first idea of what The Wasp would have looked like, should she have been included in the film.
Here’s a video of an alternate intro for the film which highlights Iron Man himself featuring the artwork of Federico D’Alessandro:
I think that scene is really cool, but ultimately I like the intro they put in the film best.
