For those of us with access to a 3D printer, there are some cool projects. One such project is this printable Iron Man action figure- a neat idea and definitely something unique few others will have. The only question is how much media will you need to use to make one?

“If there was one superhero who has been fully embraced by the 3D printing community, it would have to be Iron Man. I’m not sure what it is, but it seems as though we have seen more and more 3D printable Iron Man designs come about as of late. We’ve seen 3D printed Iron Man prosthetic hands and arms, one of which was delivered to the recipient by “Iron Man” himself, Robert Downey Jr.. We’ve also seen numerous Iron Man costumes and helmets 3D printed by fans of the comic.
Now, one man, named Tony Davis, has taken things to a new level. Davis, who loves to share his models with anyone interested in downloading them, has created a very cool 3D printed Iron Man action figure, which he has made available 
for free on Thingiverse.
“I’ve been working on my minifigure codename: Killer Kommando and I wanted to scale it up,” Davis tells 3DPrint.com. “The problem is the joints get weird when you scale them up and down. This was my opportunity to get the joints to work on a larger scale so I can build more figures this size. This was just the first one.”
Because he was able to successfully scale the joints, Davis has plans to create more action figures in the future. This one though, features the MARK VI Suit, and it is fully articulated. The joints are all bendable, and the figure is completely posable.
Davis used 123d Design, Fusion 360, Meshmixer and Makerware to design this figure, and then printed it out on his MakerBot Replicator 3D printer. The printing process includes the printing of 12 individual pieces which all fit together once printed. It takes approximately 4 hours of print time to complete, and a few more minutes for assembly.
Because the parts are all 3D printed separately, it allows for the printing of different colors, saving time on any needed post processing or painting that must take place afterwards. Davis tells us that he is still in the process of tweaking the base model (Killer Kommando) and will be releasing “Killer Kommando XL” sometime in the near future.
As time goes on, more and more interactive toys like this are being made available for just about anyone with a 3D printer to create themselves. We will certainly be keeping an eye on Davis’ future creations.
