“Robert Downey Jr. has been in good spirits this week after receiving the Generation Award at the 2015 MTV Movie Awards on Sunday and kicking off the “Avengers: Age of Ultron” press tour. And fans are thrilled that the actor’s good mood seems to be prompting some interesting reveals.
Just before his appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” Monday night, the 50-year-old actor posted his first ever Instagram photo – and it was pretty epic. In it, he sits backstage with the late-night talk show host and his fellow “Avengers” co-stars Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson and Mark Ruffalo.
Besides showing press tour highlights on his new social media page, the wiseguy has been teasing his involvement in future Marvel movies in some recent interviews. Like when E! Online asked him about Iron Man’s involvement in “Captain America: Civil War.” While it has been confirmed that the hero will appear and battle his former ally, not much is known about what will happen to Iron Man past the 2016 movie. But savvy fans have a pretty good idea.
Rumors were circulating about Tony Stark playing a major role in the recently announced “Spider-Man” standalone film. The early reports indicated that the only thing standing in the way of Iron Man appearing with the newest Marvel Cinematic Universe good guy was simply getting Downey to agree to extend his contract. Now it seems that the actor is giving it enough thought to be considered interested.
“The funny thing is, it all feeds back into itself because now it’s got me thinking that that would be something that Stark Industries would actually be diverting funds to and all that,” he told E! Online when asked about Spider-Man. “This fantasy life that I get to have, making these movies, the nice thing is when some of the fantasy from the films turns into reality, a technological reality.”
While this doesn’t exactly confirm we’ll see Iron Man and Spider-Man fight back-to-back, it shows the actor might like to see a young Peter Parker interact with a much older super-powered mentor. After all, if he’d wanted to quell rumors about his appearing in the movie, that would have been the perfect opportunity.”
