“Ever wanted to send text messages from your forearm like Tony Stark? That could soon be possible as Japanese company NEC has created a virtual keyboard that would look at home on any Iron Man suit.
The ARmKeypad software will only work when paired with an eyeglass computer like Google Glass – remember that? – and a smartwatch, as it needs both to detect which keys are being pressed.
It uses the built-in camera on a headset to display the virtual keyboard on the user’s forearm, and the wearable device picks up vibrations when the keys are being pushed.
NEC developed the software to help workers in maintenance and factory jobs, as well as medical professionals, enter information hands-free, according to Vice.
It has a clear advantage over voice dictation in these settings because it can be used in noisy environments.
NEC plans to launch its virtual keyboard in 2016 to capitalise on the burgeoning augmented reality market.”
Now that would get some looks next time you text during an office meeting!
