“When it came to choosing a theme for her fourth birthday party, Marina knew there was really only one option: Iron Man.
She’d just started discovering superheroes, and her mum, Renata, was keen to create a party that fit the theme while staying child-friendly and fun.
Renata decorated the party in Iron Man’s yellow and red, but kept images of the character himself to a minimum, instead mixing female characters to show Marina that girls can be superheroes too.
Renata even made a crocheted Iron Man ‘cake’ and gave Marina a special Iron Man dress – complete with a tutu.
‘I’ve never seen her so excited,’ Renata told Buzzfeed Brazil.
‘I think that this is also because of the representations all around… she was able to really see herself in the world of heroes, which hadn’t happened before.’
And to make the party even more special, Renata asked her sister to create Marina’s very own superhero book, Super Marina.
Props to Marina’s parents for giving her the birthday party of her four-year-old dreams. We can’t wait to find out how she celebrates next year.”
