exoskeleton-helps-paralyzed-man-complete-obstacle-course-2Defeating Thanos is important and all, but look at what some real world Iron Man tech is doing for one man in the real world!

“A man who is paralysed from the waist down is given a new set of legs thanks to this robotic exoskeleton.

The incredible outfit shows that movement is a matter of technology, as he bends and flexes his legs like anyone else.

Mark, thei pilot, is paralysed with a spinal cord injury, but is able to fully controlling this advanced exoskeleton.

He is fitted with a tether is for fall protection and to log controller data.

The futuristic invention is going through a practice run ahead of the Cybathlon Powered Exoskeleton Course .

The event, coming up on October 8 in Zurich, Switzerland, will see this suit, built by IHMC Robotics – the Florida Institute for Human and Machine Cognition – go up against others in the Powered Exoskeleton Race.

The race consists of six tasks with a 10-minute time limit.

During the exoskeleton race, pilots with complete paraplegia negotiate an obstacle course consisting of typical everyday tasks such as climbing stairs or sitting down on a chair.

The challenge for the pilots is to guide the exoskeleton into correctly performing the movements.

IHMC researchers have been pioneering advanced control techniques for bipedal robots to maintain balance while walking over a variety of types of terrain.

They explain: “Our humanoid projects are focused on enabling our bipedal humanoids handle rough terrain without requiring onboard sensors to build a model of the terrain.”

Check out a video of it in action below!
